Pipe Boring Explained
There was a time when installing a new underground pipe for your home or commercial building would mean digging a long trench spanning the entire length of the new pipe. Breakthroughs in trenchless technology like pipe boring now make it possible to bore an underground path for the new pipe with little disturbance to the landscaping above.
Using a steerable drill head equipped with location technology, an initial pilot hole can be dug following a very precise path. The cutaway earth is suspended in a special liquid and hydraulically removed. Then, a special reaming tool is used to expand the tunnel to the appropriate diameter to accommodate the new pipe. Finally, the new pipe is pulled through the tunnel and ready for connection.
Septic System Installation and Maintenance
Septic systems are comprised of two main components: the septic tank and the drainfield. The septic tank receives waste from the home and holds it temporarily. While in the tank, grease, fat and soapsuds float to the top and become scum. Meanwhile, the heavier solids form sludge that settles to the bottom. As a new waste enters the tank, liquid is pushed into the drainfield for percolation in the surrounding soil. This process treats the liquid and removes bacteria. The scum and sludge remain inside the tank, making it necessary to have it pumped out and cleaned on a regular basis, otherwise the solids could make their way into the drainfield, clogging it and making the treatment of your waste more difficult.
