A lot has changed in the field of excavating since 1948 when the Vietzke family first started out. Innovations in trenchless technologies have made it possible to replace, repair and even install a sewer line with very little disruption or damage to the grounds surrounding your building.
Identifying the Problem
The first step for our service technicians when they arrive is to assess the nature and exact location of the issue affecting your sewer line. To accomplish this, we may choose to use video inspection, which is a small waterproof video camera that can travel through the sewer line. What the video inspection uncovers will determine our next steps.
Cured-In-Place Pipe For Aging, Cracked Or Leaking Sewer Lines
If your sewer line is not too severely damaged but is showing signs of breakdown such as cracks forming or leaks developing, the most appropriate solution may be cured-in-place pipe restoration. This solution involves using a resin permeated flexible tube that is inserted into the current pipe, completely adhering to the walls and adopting the shape of the old line. The resin is then allowed to cure before it can be reconnected. The end result is a new solid and seamless pipe within the old one that is structurally sound and that should last for decades.
Pipe Pulling For Replacing Severely Damaged Sewer Lines
If the video inspection reveals that portions of the sewer line have collapsed or are unsuitable for the cured-in-place lining restoration, we may opt to use the pipe pulling method to replace the damaged line. Another trenchless solution that involves only two small holes to be dug at either end of the line, this process involves a pulling steel expander head with a diameter slightly larger than the sewer line through the existing pipe. As the expander head travels, it shatters the old pipe and pushes its pieces into the soil all the while dragging the new replacement pipe behind it. Once through, the new sewer line is reconnected at both ends and is then ready for use.
In addition to removing the need to tear up the lawn or pavement around your home, both the cured-in-place pipe restoration and the pipe pulling replacement methods are faster than traditional solutions that require extensive excavation. And since they also require less labor, they tend to be more affordable too.
